Lollipop Chainsaw Remake Will Remain True to the Original, Producer Assures Fans - Push Square

The San Romero Knight returns

Lollipop Chainsaw is an iconic PS3 title, and a remake of the crazy and colourful hack-and-slash game is currently in the works, slated for 2023.

Producer of both the original game and the remake, Yoshimi Yasuda of Dragami Games, took to Twitter to reassure fans that the team is doing everything it can to preserve the original's aesthetic:

Yasuda states that the primary goal of the Lollipop Chainsaw Remake is to provide a way for players to play the original title more easily and not to make a new Lollipop Chainsaw game.

This response comes after fan speculation that changes to the story or style of the game were in the works due to the remake project's stated aim of bringing "a more realistic approach to graphics".

Yasuda cleared up the confusion, stating:

"The mention of how the game will have a more realistic look in the previous announcement was meant to refer to how we will make use of the advanced rendering technology available in current game consoles," Yasuda said.

"We do not wish to change Juliet's design, and the assumption that we want to is baseless. We were the ones who created Juliet's model data after great trial and error 10 years ago, and feel attached to her more than anyone else.

On the subject of censorship, he had the following to say:

"We learned after the announcement of Lollipop Chainsaw remake that many fans are worried about censorship in the game".

"We have not yet discussed the issue with the platform holders yet, and thus cannot say anything about the topic, but what we can say is that we intend to negotiate with the platform holders to make it so that the game can be as close to the original version as possible."

One aspect of the game that will have to be altered, however, is the game's licensed music soundtrack. Several tracks will return, but due to licensing issues, new music will replace the rest.

What do you make of the Lollipop Chainsaw remake? Are you excited for Juliet Starling's glorious return? Give us an "A" in the comments section below.

Lmao I don’t see this one getting nominated for any game of the year awards

@Playstationuser thankfully it doesn't have to be.

“We have yet to discuss with platform holders yet” I think you were a bit premature saying there will be no censorship then mate. Never make that claim before talking to Sony.

It sounds like the devs hearts are in the right place. Music rights are an absolute nightmare to navigate so I get why it would be difficult to get all that sorted out. As long as they at least got "Lollipop" and "Hey Mickey" back we will be in good shape 😄!

The censorship issue is going to be interesting to see how that turns out. Sony is the obvious elephant in the room. Hopefully Sony chills as the over the top sexual nonsense is kind of part of the game. Without it would be like playing Tony Hawk with no music. It just wouldn't feel right.

I'm definitely rooting for this game as I hold the original in a special place in my heart. Is it an all time great that absolutely everyone must play? No, but it was a damn good time nonetheless!

I will buy it regardless so I'm just hoping as many of the original tracks make it as possible or at least the ones I particularly like!

@Playstationuser Obviously everyone here knows that the only games that truly count as games are the ones nominated for multiple goty awards, everything else is just waste of life trash that shouldn't even have been made 🙂

@Juanalf Well 16 songs are not going to be in there which is quite a lot sadly.

@Tecinthebrain definitely a waste of time

I remember mostly middling reviews, but perhaps that was just gaming sites trying to raise themselves above the raunchy nature of this game. Within the genre, I'd personally love to see a remake or sequel of God Hand.

@tameshiyaku I played it for a few hours back in the day and it was nothing to write home about, but I enjoyed it for what it was.

Sony will probably demand stuff to be censored lol. We all know that they hate any kind of Fanservice and sometimes even Gore (obviously only outside of their own Games)

I was hoping all the way through PS4's reign for remasters of all PS3 Suda 51 titles, so I'm absolutely looking forward to this I felt that his games were looked down upon at the time, but they were good old fashioned bouncy non-apologetic fun (from a mind as mad as a box of ****s)! In an era when the games industry was saying "Oh, no we are grown-ups now! Check out [insert pretentious arty pish game with a name that could also be an emo band]".

Fingers crossed for a Shadows of the Damned and Killer Is Dead remake/remaster ❤️

Really hope Sony doesn't do their dumb censoring again. Maybe it will make the pass cause it's not anime girls in swimsuits. It's so weird having to worry about Sony censoring games where Nintendo doesn't even bother anymore. Crazy how times change

At release, I only got about 40 minutes to an hour into it. It just didn’t click with me at all. Might try and play it again.

Now where's that Killer 7 remaster?

I hope that Japanese companies will continue to develop games without regard to the opinions of the politically correct as they have in the past.

@tameshiyaku God hand was too good! Also too hard! The original 'git gud' of games, that actually got more difficult the better you played, 😄

Glad to hear they addressed our concerns! I'm def excited about playing the remake still.

@RedAngel_Dragnet I feel you, bro!

I would love to see Killer7 on new platforms, but it seems that won't happen anytime soon.

We wait and see how it is. I just hope it turns out well.
