FILLMORE — The Fillmore Volunteer Fire Department will hold its 62nd-annual Fireman’s Chicken Barbecue this Friday and Saturday.

Breaded tenderloins, hamburgers, hot dogs, fish sandwiches, onion rings, homemade noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, baked beans and homemade desserts will also be on tap.

The department’s auxiliary will have the menu prices on its Facebook page in the meantime.

The meal will be served from 5-9 p.m. Friday and from 12-8 p.m. on Saturday, and no debit or credit cards will be accepted.

The traditional parade will get under way at 1 p.m. Saturday. Meanwhile, a cornhole tournament will be held at 3 p.m., with sign-up beginning at 1 p.m.

Vendors will also be available both days, as well as face-painting for the youngsters and a dunk tank on Friday.

Raffle prizes will include a pressure washer or $200 cash as the first prize, a pair of wooden rocking chairs for the second prize and a 16-inch chainsaw as the third prize, as well as multiple mystery prizes donated by the community.

“Come out and enjoy a meal and visit with longtime friends and make new ones,” Fillmore firefighter Todd Zeiner encouraged. “We’ve had people tell us they had their first date at the barbecue.”

The department, which serves Marion Township and provides mutual aid in all of Putnam and Hendricks counties, was founded in 1958 and held its first barbecue in 1959. The event is its primary fundraising effort.
