When the stock market goes through downturns, it has the potential to induce changes in investor psychology and behavior that are rarely beneficial. It’s always tempting to think that the stock market might not recover.

Harpeth True Value celebrated its relaunching with a unique ribbon cutting Saturday afternoon in Franklin.
New owners Mike Outlaw and Rick English invited locals to enjoy free barbecue, pizza, popcorn and prizes at the local hardware store. Previous owners Mike and Shelley Moeller had championed the business for more than 20 years, purchasing it in 2000.
It quickly became a community staple and one that stuck with English.
"I was trying to build a hardware store in Westhaven back nine years ago," said English, who owns the Westhaven shopping center. "Everybody said, 'You're crazy. We got the Harpeth store. Why would you build another hardware store?'
"We were trying to do an ACE Hardware, and thank goodness we didn't do it, and we have this one here."
English and Outlaw have backgrounds in real estate and became fast friends after they met while pursuing similar ventures. They purchased Harpeth True Value in June. They plan to partially renovate the property's exterior but otherwise will retain the status quo.
"We're actually looking to do everything the same just hopefully do it a little bit better in regard to just making sure we're really weaving ourselves into the fabric of the community and making sure we are providing the services and the community activism that people are looking for in the area," English said.
Harpeth True Value has publicly sponsored the local Boys and Girls Club and The Heritage Foundation.
"We are community-oriented," Outlaw said. "We believe the community is supporting us, so we want to be able to reciprocate."
To finish an afternoon of fun, True Value employees held the ribbon, a plank of red-painted wood, and Outlaw cut it with a chainsaw alongside English, Williamson County Mayor Rogers Anderson, Franklin Mayor Ken Moore, previous longtime county clerk Elaine Anderson and other local leaders.
Singer and guitarist Dan Harrell played music at the event. Representatives from Traeger Grills and Big Green Egg provided the food.
