A Greenville woman accused of providing false documentation to law enforcement and medical staff after a 2018 vehicle crash in Wilson has been arrested.

A news release from the N.C. Department of Insurance on Tuesday announced the arrest of Angela Whidbee, 33, of 2804 Stantonsburg Road. Whidbee faces charges of identity theft and insurance fraud.

She was arrested on July 15 by special agents with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division and Pitt County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

The release said that Whidbee told a state trooper and staff at Wilson Medical Center that she was a different person to avoid the legal consequences of a March 15, 2018, crash in Wilson County.

Whidbee also used the other woman’s name in support of an automobile insurance policy claim from Sentry Insurance Company. the release said. The offenses occurred between March 15, 2018, and Sept. 10, 2020.

Whidbee was charged with one count of identity theft and one count of insurance fraud.

She was jailed under a $5,000 bond. She has a prior charge of providing false information to an officer during a 2016 incident in Beaufort County.
